For me Gestalt therapy offers a refreshingly different way of relating to yourself, your environment and other people. Gestalt is a humanistic/existential therapy, based on the belief that people have all the necessary abilities to solve their problems and difficulties and lead satisfying, creative, vibrant lives. However, sometimes we get stuck and need some assistance. I see my task as a psychotherapist to help you see more clearly what your situation is, find out how you are a part of it, and experiment with finding new solutions or ways to face your difficulties.
Gestalt therapy is not just a talking therapy. It explores immediate experience using a holistic, embodied approach. By raising awareness in the various contexts of life and by moving between talking, action and current experience we learn to experiment with new ways of being.
Seeing a therapist for the first time can be a daunting experience and there are many different models and practitioners to choose from. Finding the right therapy and therapist can be a challenge in itself.
However, across the spectrum of counselling and psychotherapy, research has shown that it is the relationship between therapist and client, more than any other factor, that determines the effectiveness of the therapy. Therefore, choosing somebody that you feel comfortable and connected with can be the most important factor. I would always recommend you see a qualified and professionally accredited therapist.
A list of some of the areas I deal with:
